Eat More Plantz

Five reasons to eschew chicken, dairy and other meats.

1

FIGHT DISEASE

Over 52 million birds perished or were slaughtered in the 2022 bird flu outbreak and this latest outbreak that was just discovered has the potential to surpass those numbers and possibly infect humans. Frighteningly, it has been called “Possibly 100 times worse than the Covid epidemic”

2

PLANTS ARE HIGHER IN FIBER & NUTRIENTS

A staggering 95% of all Americans don’t get enough essential fiber in their diet. The percentage of those who suffer from protein deficiency, however, is in the single digits. Report after report have shown that incorporating a plant-based diet into a person’s lifestyle and getting enough fiber and nutrients can reduce their risk of heart attack and can lower their cholesterol. It can also help with weight management.

3

REDUCE YOUR RISK OF CERTAIN CANCERS

Outlets such as the National Institutes of Health have been quoted as saying that plant-based foods may enhance the prevention of cancer-related outcomes. Cancer cases and deaths have risen steadily in the last 20 years and many experts have said that a switch to a diet of plants (not animals) is one way we can start to reverse that trend.

4

PLANT BASED FOOD HAS COME A LONG WAY

It’s easier to get. It’s made with various seasonings and methods to make it taste like an umami bomb. It’s way more colorful and flavorful. This isn’t the bland, unsatisfying burger of yesteryear.

Gone are the days of a beige patty of something or a bowl of nuts and twigs being the only options for those looking to eat plant-based. Recent food innovations have produced mouth-watering, crave-worthy, hearty vegan alternatives to the foods we grew up with, from decadent burgers smothered in toppings and sauces, to hearty bowls, sandwiches and salads, that are a delight for the tastebuds.

5

IT’S KINDER TO THE PLANET AND THE ANIMALS

It’s difficult to believe, but animal agriculture accounts for a significantly greater impact on the planet than all forms of transportation combined. Yes, combined. For example, cattle ranching has nearly destroyed much of the Amazon rainforest, and the so-called “dark fishing fleets” are plundering the world’s oceans.

And that doesn’t even take into account the devastating impact that factory farming has on the animals. As of April 1, 2024, the number of animals killed this year in slaughterhouses totaled 7 billion chickens, 200 million turkeys, 124 million pigs, and 35 million cows. To put it into perspective, that’s nearly 78 million chickens killed every day.
